Step aside Dream Team - Make way for The Green Team

Efficiency Maine was the sole sponsor of a half-hour show on WPXT-TV and WPME-TV featuring an energy-efficiency makeover of a typical older Maine home.

"The Green Team" show, which runs through March, features Efficiency Maine experts overseeing the home's energy improvements made by local contractors. Improvements included the installation of a solar hot water system, energy-efficient lighting and appliances, green insulation. As the final step, Maine Interfaith Power and Light made the home truly "carbon-free," for one full year by donating to the state's clean energy supply to offset the home's all remaining carbon emissions.

The house featured on The Green Team was selected from a "cast" of 100 nominees from all over the state who had entered a selection contest in which home owners sent in a short video of their houses explaining why their home should become carbon free.

The winning house, belonging to the Wright family of Falmouth needed work, but not too much. It came with a family that really wanted to reduce its carbon footprint, and it had a south-facing roof ideal for a solar hot-water system.
